AutoStuhl

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about commissioning an heirloom office chair built from a genuine automotive seat — provenance, price, gifting, comfort, warranty and delivery.

What is an AutoStuhl?

An AutoStuhl is a fully functional executive office chair built from a genuine automotive seat — a real front seat from a Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Corvette or Camaro — rebuilt by hand onto a rolling steel office base with solid walnut armrests and a laser-cut Signature Panel. Each is commissioned to order, and most are one of one.

Is it a real car seat, or a replica?

It is the real seat. We source authentic factory seats from genuine donor cars and restore each one by hand. Every chair is individually numbered and issued a Certificate of Provenance, and entered in the Owner's Registry.

Which cars can I get?

The Garage currently holds 26 individually commissioned models across Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Corvette and Camaro. If you don't see the car you want, a Private Commission lets us source the exact seat for you.

How much does an AutoStuhl cost?

Chairs range from about $4,395 to $28,950, depending on the donor car. Most models are $4,000–$8,000; exotic seats (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche GT3) run higher. A Private Commission begins with a $199 sourcing fee, credited in full toward the final piece. Freight and tax are calculated at commission.

Is it a good gift?

It is the gift for the person who already has everything — especially someone who loves a particular car but only drives it occasionally. An AutoStuhl brings the car they love into the room where they actually spend their days. Drive it when you can; sit in it when you can't.

How does a Private Commission work?

Tell us the car. We search for a genuine seat, send you photographs to approve, then build the chair. A $199 sourcing fee begins the search; once we locate the seat, a deposit reserves it for you within 48 hours. The fee is credited toward your final commission.

Is it actually comfortable — a usable office chair?

Yes. A car's front seat is engineered to support a person in comfort for hundreds of thousands of miles. Mounted on our ergonomic rolling steel base, an AutoStuhl is a genuine, everyday executive office chair — not a display piece.

What is the Signature Panel?

An optional laser-cut stainless-steel back panel, personalised to the owner — a family crest, monogram, coordinates or signature (+$249). You can upload your own artwork when you commission the chair.

How long does it take to build?

Typically 8–9 weeks to hand-build, plus freight transit. A Private Commission adds sourcing time to locate the right genuine seat.

How is it shipped, and what does it weigh?

By crated LTL freight within the United States. Freight is estimated at checkout from your ZIP code and delivery location and included in your payment — in the rare case the final carrier cost comes in higher, we email you before shipping. Crated for transit it's about 240 lb (the chair itself is ~150–160 lb) on a roughly 30-inch five-star steel base.

What happens on delivery day — do I need a loading dock?

Your AutoStuhl arrives crated on a pallet (~240 lb), delivered curbside. At checkout you tell us whether it's going to a residence or a business with a loading dock & forklift (or a business without one), which sets the freight. For residences the truck brings a liftgate to lower the crate to the ground — no extra step for you. White-glove (in-home) delivery is not included, so you'll uncrate and position the chair (~150 lb); please have a second person or basic equipment ready.

What's the warranty?

A one-year warranty on the chair and a lifetime warranty on the steel base and casters. Natural patina and the character of genuine, previously-driven leather are part of what makes each piece one of one — they are not considered defects.

Can I return it?

Because each AutoStuhl is made to order, pieces are generally not eligible for return or exchange once production begins, except where a piece arrives damaged or defective. See our Returns & Warranty policy.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently ship within the United States. If you're outside the U.S. and would like to commission a piece, contact concierge@autostuhl.com to discuss export freight and duties.

Who makes AutoStuhl, and is checkout secure?

AutoStuhl is a brand of Next Level Innovations Inc. Payments are processed securely by Stripe; Next Level Innovations Inc. is the name that appears on your statement.
