Returns & Warranty
Last updated: August 31, 2026
Because each AutoStuhl is individually hand-built to your commission, this policy explains when an order can be cancelled, our limited return rights, and the warranty that protects your piece.
Made-to-Order Nature
Every AutoStuhl is a bespoke, made-to-order piece, built from a genuine automotive seat that we source and rebuild for you. For that reason, our pieces are generally not eligible for return or exchange once production has begun, except where a piece arrives damaged or defective as described below. This does not affect any non-waivable rights you may have under applicable law.
Cancellations
You may request to cancel an order by emailing concierge@autostuhl.com:
- Before production begins — you may cancel for a refund of amounts paid, less any non-refundable deposit or sourcing costs already incurred (which we will disclose to you).
- After production begins — because materials are committed and the seat is being rebuilt to your specification, orders (and especially custom Signature Panel™ orders) are non-cancellable.
For Private Commissions, a deposit reserves a located seat for you and must be paid within 48 hours of our offer; that deposit is applied to your total and may be non-refundable once the seat is secured on your behalf. We will confirm these terms with you in writing before charging.
Genuine Leather & Patina — Not a Defect
Our seats come from real, previously driven cars. Natural patina, creasing, softening, colour variation, grain, and honest signs of age are inherent characteristics of genuine used leather — they are part of what makes your piece one of one, and they are not considered defects. We describe each piece honestly so you know what to expect before you commission it.
Limited Warranty
AutoStuhl warrants each chair as follows, to the original purchaser:
- One (1) year on the chair against defects in workmanship affecting normal use;
- Lifetime on the steel base and casters against structural defects, for as long as you own the chair.
What is covered
Manufacturing or structural defects that affect the normal use of the chair, base, or casters.
What is not covered
- Natural patina and the character of genuine used leather (see above);
- Normal wear and tear, and changes in leather with age and use;
- Damage from misuse, accident, neglect, improper cleaning, alteration, or commercial overuse beyond a normal single-user office setting;
- Freight damage (handled as a delivery claim — see our Shipping Policy);
- Customer-supplied artwork content on a custom Signature Panel™.
How to Make a Warranty Claim
Email concierge@autostuhl.com with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photographs. We may ask for additional detail to assess the claim.
Our Remedy
If a valid warranty claim is confirmed, AutoStuhl will, at its option, repair or replace the affected component, or the piece, at no charge for the covered part. This is your exclusive remedy under the warranty. Warranty service does not extend the original warranty period. This warranty gives you specific legal rights; you may also have other rights that vary by jurisdiction.
Refunds
Where a refund is due, we process it to your original payment method via Stripe. Depending on your bank, it may take several business days to appear.
