Commissioned Automotive Furniture
The seat you love,
reborn as the chair
you live in.
The car you love
Where you actually spend your time.
You drive it a few hours a month. You sit at your desk forty hours a week. AutoStuhl rebuilds the genuine seat of the car you love into the chair you live in — hand-built on a 1,000-lb steel base, in solid walnut and laser-cut steel.

The Film
Drive it when you can.
Sit in it when you can't.
The story of AutoStuhl — the genuine seat of the car you love, reborn as the chair you live in.
The Automobile.
Reimagined.
When extraordinary engineering reaches the end of one life, we believe it deserves another. Not recycled — reimagined. Not repurposed — elevated. Not because it is sustainable. Because it is beautiful.
Our Belief
Most things today aren't built to last.
They're built to sell. Built to hit a price point.
Built to be replaced. Built to become next year's landfill.
We believe something very different.
We believe the objects you live with every day should become part of your story — not because they're expensive, but because they're exceptional. Because they were made by people who still believe craftsmanship matters.
We're not interested in building more things.
We're interested in building fewer things. Better.
The Problem
It started with disappointment.
For years I watched quality disappear. Not overnight. Slowly. The steel became thinner. The castings became cheaper. The wood became veneer. The leather became vinyl. The craftsmanship became automation.
Products became disposable. And somehow, people accepted it. I never could. So I stopped looking for the things I wanted. I started building them.
People stopped asking where I bought them. They started asking if I could build one for them. That is how this began — not with a business plan, but with a refusal to compromise.
The Question
What happens when automotive engineering
meets furniture making?
The Origin
It began life as an
automobile seat.
This is one of the most comfortable office chairs you will ever sit in. It took years to develop. It wasn't originally designed for an office — it was engineered to carry people in complete comfort for hundreds of thousands of miles.
Each AutoStuhl is built around a genuine, near-new front seat from the car you love — Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Corvette and more. Manufacturers spent extraordinary sums engineering these seats. We believed that engineering deserved a second life.
This is an upcycling service. The seats are near-new. If you would prefer a brand-new seat, we can quote it.
Engineering deserves a second life. The AutoStuhl principle
Set once.
Held for a lifetime.
The seat is powered to find your position — pitch, height, angle — exactly as it was engineered in the vehicle. Then it is set, and it holds. Precision without compromise, in the quiet of your own room.
A thousand pounds
of intention.
The foundation is hand-welded from thick mild steel and rated beyond 1,000 lb. It rides on five casters, each engineered to carry 350 lb. No plastic. No zinc pot-metal. No compromise.
Finished in your choice of powder-coat — matte black, silver, or clear — it is the anchor beneath the art.
Solid Walnut
Shaped like an
airplane wing.
Each armrest is carved from solid walnut and shaped by hand, its section drawn from the geometry of an airplane wing. It is finished with a hand-rubbed oil that deepens with the years and with touch.
We tell the story of the wood, not the specification of it. This is the part of the chair your hands will know best.
The Signature Panels™
Make it impossible to duplicate.
Luxury isn't owning what everyone else wants. It's owning what no one else can. Every AutoStuhl is fitted with a pair of precision laser-cut stainless steel Signature Panels, designed exclusively for its owner. These aren't engraved nameplates. They're commissioned works of metal art.
Your family crest
A lineage, cut in steel.
Your company mark
The office, made singular.
Your aircraft or unit
Service and machines you flew.
Your own handwriting
Coordinates, a verse, a signature.
No two AutoStuhl chairs should ever be identical. That is exactly the point.
The Builder
The builder.
This is not a résumé. It is a philosophy. A refusal to build junk. A belief that the objects around us should be worth keeping — and worth passing on.
"I never intended this to become a limited edition. Reality made that decision for us."
Why only twenty-seven?
27
We never intended this to become a limited edition. Reality made that decision for us. After months of searching, we could secure only twenty-seven authentic seats worthy of the name. When they are gone, they are gone. We are not building a production run. We are closing a chapter.
On scarcity.
A Leica is not merely a camera. A Patek Philippe is not merely a watch. A Singer is not merely a Porsche. What separates an object from an heirloom is not price — it is intention, restraint, and the certainty that it will never be made this way again. Most AutoStuhl commissions are one of one. When the seat is gone, the chair can never be built again.

Concealed within every chair
A brushed stainless plaque that may never be seen — "Commissioned to outlive its first owner."
It records the serial number and the date of completion. It isn't there for today's owner. It's there for the person who discovers it fifty years from now. Because truly exceptional objects don't just survive generations — they connect them.
The Garage
Twenty-six commissions.
Every AutoStuhl is a genuine automotive seat reborn — most one of one, a few offered as a pair. Each carries its own serial number, its own Certificate of Provenance™, and its own page in the Owner's Registry™.
Not a purchase. A commission.
How it is made yours.
Conversation
We begin with a conversation, not a cart. You choose your car from the Garage — or name the one we should hunt — and we confirm the seat.
The Panels
We design your Signature Panels — crest, mark, unit, verse, or handwriting — and finalise seat origin, colour and base finish.
The Build
Your chair is built, numbered, photographed, and entered into the Owner's Registry. Delivery is 8–9 weeks.
White-Glove Delivery
Freight is arranged across the continental United States and quoted to your address. It arrives as an object, not a parcel.
